This is Just All Kinds of Wrong!

Reader Dorothy says:

The cover is from a 1940’s Shirley Temple movie….. I love the oddly serene look on Shirley’s face as she gets a spanking from the creepy middle-aged guy. Kind of like Shirley Temple meets Betty Page.

I think what disturbs me the most about this poster is the “oddly serene look on Shirley’s face” because she’s probably day-dreaming about what she’s going to do with the money that this nice man is going to give her after he finishes spanking her. He also kind of looks like Bill Powell and that really upsets me because I really love him in the The Thin Man movies, although I could, strangely enough, picture him turning Nora over his knee and spanking her with a hairbrush. Huh… actually, that’s kind of hot, now that I’ve thought about it. Umm… excuse me, I’ll be in my bunk.

What she’s thinking about is the fact that she’s going to have to get the front of that dress dry-cleaned after he’s, uhm, done.

Bettie Page was HOT! And she always looked like she was having a blast, tied-up, tied-down, giving and receiving, as in “Ooooooo! Isn’t this great?”

    La Temple just looks bored.

Um…is this what Shirley Temple did after she grew up and no one wanted her anymore?

Wow, check you out… Shirley Temple, Thin Man and Firefly all in one post. That’s like a pop culture hat trick.

Shirley + the older dude made me think immediately of The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer, another movie with Myrna Loy that I love. (And who doesn’t love Cary Grant in those comedy roles?)

. . . And I’m picturing grownup Shirley Miss-Rightwing-Ambassadoress Temple Black over that guy’s knee, scraggly gray hair trailing down around her wrinkly face . . . eeeew.
