That Hottie Wizard

You know, I gotta say, when I first heard that Paul Blackthorne was going to be playing Harry Dresden on the Sci-Fi Channel’s The Dresden Files based on Jim Butcher’s awesome series, I was more than a little skeptical. I always thought Harry was more like Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne. Except taller. A little unsure of himself, a little uncomfortable in his own skin, but nevertheless extremely capable and intelligent. That was how Harry came across to me in the first book. Later on, he became a little more confident, a little more slick, but this Harry is… wow, a little too slick. He’s sophisticated, witty, and charming. He’s got girls crawling in and out of his bed! Right now, I’m not quite sure which Harry I prefer yet, but I’m willing to give this Harry a shot. Paul Blackthorne is very yummy. Check out the Dresden Files on the Sci-Fi Channel on Sundays at 9 pm (pacific) and 8 pm (central). Or check your local listings.

Damn, I forgot this premiered tonight. It repeats tomorrow afternoon, I’ll have to tivo it. I HATE the promo picture; that smirk on Harry’s face is just beyond obnoxious. Have you read the new HB yet?

Hey, Laura… I kind of like the smirk, actually. I think it makes him look like… a cad. A rogue, if you will.

I haven’t read the new HB. I think I may have to wait for the MMP. I just bought the entire “walking dead” collection by Robert Kirkman as well as all of the Cal Macdonald Mysteries by Steve Niles, so I’m a little tapped on cash.

i think that image looks fabulous! Everything about it, from the curved shadows on the building to the muted glow of the police lights… well, dang it …. just everything.

*whimper* I’m waiting for my BFF to send me the tape, since it’s not on over here.

But OMG, you haven’t read Proven Guilty yet? Does your library not have it? Did you read the teaser chapters? Best one yet. Well, except for White Night, in which Thomas…. no, no, I can’t tell you. It would be too cruel. ;-)

I started watching, but then stopped after the first 20 minutes or so. I was immediately turned off by the idea of Harry being so slick with the chicks. Part of the charm of the original Harry Dresden books was how difficult it was for him to meet women for relationships. I also didn’t buy into the idea, based on how Harry’s character was set up initially, that he would so cavalierly dismiss the little boy’s concerns about the monsters.

*Sigh* I’m just one of those readers who generally prefers the hero in my imagination (and the author’s imagination) to the one on the small screen.

I love these books. I’ve read them all apart from the new hardback Proven Guilty. This is one of the rare series that hasn’t declined as he went on. In fact, I think the last one I read, Dead Beat, was one of the best. He’s just gettting better.

I’m scared to death of what they’ll do to Harry on TV. Agree with Darlene on Harry being the private dick who gets all the chicks (shut your mouth, I’m just talking about Dresden).

Bam, you have to read Finding Home. Bump it to the top of your list. I read it for Romance Reviews Today and it’s the best thing Bonnie Dee has ever done. And you know she’s fabulous.

You know I watched this last night and I’m not overly impressed with Paul as Harry he’s just not whom I pictured as him and to be honest, I don’t think I really liked him. I’ll still watch next week though .

Hmmm, I didn’t know there were doing a tv series! :D I still have to read them ^^; However, I have to say that I’ve always imagined Harry a bit more nerdy :P

I wasn’t happy with the show at first because Blackthorne’s Harry wasn’t the same character as the Harry of the books. Where was the wiseass sense of humor covering his emotional vulnerability? Where was his shyness and insecurity with women? Harry driving a Jeep instead of the blue beetle? And Bob? Puh-leaze.

But then I started watching it as a show on its own terms, and not a reworking of the Butcher books. Viewed that way, it was kind of fun. The plot was still kind of lame, though.
