13 Movies I Watch Over and Over Again

1. Friday the 13th: Part IV - A spastic Crispin Glover dancing like a crazy person to some mullet rock. Awesome. Also, a young Corey Feldman who plays an annoying kid and somehow manages to survive. Gah!
2. Friday the 13th: Part VII - Jason battles a girl with telekinesis. That’s right, just like Carrie. Marks the first appearance of Jason stuntman favorite, Kane Hodder
3. The Evil Dead - A bunch of dumb overprivileged kids who go to the woods to smoke pot and have sex accidentally awaken an ancient evil living in the woods. They all die. Good one.
4. Sense and Sensibility - that scene where Emma Thompson looks at Hugh Grant and says something like, “You’re not married?” and he says, “No” and she starts crying? Gets me every time.
5. Day of the Dead - Zombies have taken over the world. A group of scientists are living in an underground bunker trying to find a cure, while fighting with a bunch of jingoistic, blood-thirsty military guys who are supposed to protect them, but just want to go out there and blow the zombies up. Awesome.
6. Night of the Living Dead (1991) - Bunch of angry, scared folks are holing up in a cabin on top of a cemetery, hiding from zombies. One of the best horror film remakes, if not the best, I have ever seen. Tony Todd as Ben was just divine.
7. Zoolander - “How can you expect children to learn how to read, if they can’t even fit inside the building?!?”
8. Aliens - A rare improvement from the original. Lt. Ellen Ripley survives the first film only to be forced back to the frontlines because the stupid Company wants to capture the creatures to study them. Hilarity and death ensue. “They mostly come out at night. Mostly.”
9. Wives and Daughters - a Masterpiece Theater mini-series based on the book by Elizabeth Gaskell. Molly Gibson lives with her dad, a doctor, and is in love with the son of Squire Hamley. All is good until Dr. Gibson marries a woman who is well-meaning, if not a slightly self-absorbed social climber AND a meddler. She also has a daughter named Cynthia, who is beautiful and kind, but shallow and prone to temptation. Good drama.
10. Equilibrium - I can’t help it. It’s a terrible movie, but Christian Bale looks so good in it, especially when he’s hacking people with a sword in his nice white suit, or mowing them down with a semi-automatic.
11. Half Baked - “Marijuana is not a drug. I used to suck dick for coke. And that’s an addiction, man. You ever suck dick for marijuana ? Huh? Boo this man!”
12. Carrie - An awkward, gawky girl with an overly-religious mother is bullied by her classmates (”Plug it up! Plug it up!”), awakening her latent telekinetic powers and giving her the means to LOCK UP ALL THE KIDS IN HER CLASS IN THE GYM DURING THE PROM AND SET THEM ON FIRE!
13. The Shawshank Redemption - Have you ever turned on the TV at two o’clock in the morning and not seen it on some channel?

I have to say I do love all of the Friday the 13th movies. That and the Nightmare on Elm St one. And The Evil Dead series are all classics!

The movie I can watch over and over is Pride and Prejudice (A&E). My husband just rolls his eyes every six months when I pull it out.

Of those, the only one I’d agree with is Shawshank. You and Andres would get along wicked well, though, because he’s all about the bad horror movies.

My list would look like this:

    1. Return to Me
    2. Clueless
    3. Legally Blonde
    4. Pitch Black
    5. Chronicles of Riddick
    5. Hellboy
    6. The Punisher
    7. Batman Begins
    8. X-Men 1
    9. Dude, Where’s My Car?
    10. The Replacement Killers
    11. Kiss of the Dragon
    12. True Romance
    13. The Shawshank Redemption

    4. Pitch Black

    I knew I forgot something!

Most of my friends (and Tim sometimes) look at me and say, “How can you watch this crap?” It’s awesome, is why.

I didn’t get to watch PB last night, dammit. I didn’t finish my words until 11:45pm last night. The girl was all, “can we spend some time together?” fucking kids. They think they have a right to your time, just because you brought them into this world, and–

ok, yeah. So we watched the Simpsons and Futurama. Who says I’m not molding her young mind for the better?

  5. Caity

Oh, I know what you mean about Sense and Sensibility! It’s my fave EVAR. That scene makes me cry every time. Never fails. Nice list!

Wives and Daughters is great except I always wanted Molly to kiss Roger. When I invest time in a miniseries — I want a kiss. Just one, dammit! Aliens is perfection, and Emma Thompson losing it in front of Hugh Grant? Priceless.

In case you’re curious, mine would be: Clue, The Cutting Edge, Moulin Rouge, The Princess Bride, The Terminator, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Matrix, Last of the Mohicans (Day-Lewis), While You Were Sleeping, Pride & Prejudice (Firth), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, The Breakfast Club, True Romance

    Gosh, how sad am I?

    I can’t do horror, I’m beyond squeamish. :(

My movies are the sappy romantic type, Just Like Heaven and A Walk in the Clouds. I’m such a girl. sheesh! lol

The Princess Bride, The Terminator, 10 Things I Hate About You would be up there too for me, but they don’t make the top 13.

Awww, I hate Julia Styles, but that scene in 10 Things where she’s reciting her stupid poem in front of him and she can barely hold herself together… *sniff* and then she runs out crying like a stupid girl… *sniff* always gets me.

Oh, if I need a good crying jag, by the way (and who doesn’t), I watch The Love Story starring Ali McGraw and Ryan O’Neal. Damn you, Cancer!

Is it too skeevy to admit that I kinda got a crush on Heath Ledger from that movie? It was the accent!!

  11. Tilly Greene
    11

Carrie, oh man, that one get’s me every time! It’s all the blood, I know it, but it still gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Alien and Aliens - two of the best gothic horror flicks ever. The series tanked after that but the first two, man.

The first Nightmare on Elm Street is one of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen - still scares the hell out of me every time I watch it. (I’d add the Exorcist but I am a pussy and I can’t watch it, I have major issues from growing up with fundamentalist parents, LOL)

We just watched Equilibrium the other night - despite some flaws I did enjoy it and not just because my secret celebrity boyfriend Dominic Purcell is in the first three minutes and I get to see Christian shirtless several times. There’s Taye Diggs and Sean Bean too.

  13. Zeek

    4. I love that scene too- I’ve watched that movie many times but I STILL cry with her. Everytime.

and I love Shawshank too. Deffinitly would be on my list too.

The movie I can watch over and over is Pride and Prejudice (A&E).

That’s my ultimate watch over and over until my husband is tempted to throw the DVD player through the window movie. Absolutely has to be the BBC version though. I once rented it from Netflix. And kept it for four months. I eventually figured it might be time to buy my own copy.

Aliens is the best sequel I have ever seen. The first ‘Romeo and Juliet’ from 1968 gets my vote for best love story. When I originally saw it in the theater, between the theme music and cast chemistry, there was not a dry eye in the house. Comedy with good romantic turn, I vote for ‘Sweet Home Alabama’. Just watching Reese Witherspoon deck Candice Bergen at the end was worth the price of admission. :)

You know I generally hate horror movies. I like cerebral thrillers…and even then I’m covering my eyes half the time. I couldn’t watch the majority of Silence of the Lambs ’cause it freaked me out so much.

Zoolander is definitely one of my very favorite movies. With lines like Todd, are you not aware that I get farty and bloated with a foamy latte? how can you go wrong???

  17. Teddy Pig
    17

The Evil Dead = Tree Rape Scene (Was it scary or freaky or funny I’m still not sure?)

    1. Blade Runner
(Harrison Ford and Sean Young at their peak, together)
    2. Alien
(I’m with Ripley, Captain Dallas was a stud.)
    3. Dark City
(Jennifer Connelly was smoking but the men were just all sorts of fugly)
    4. The Terminator
(Michael Biehn was hot and this was a romance movie in Sci-fi clothing.)
    5. Screamers
(You will never look at Teddy Bears the same way again.)
    6. Naked Lunch
(David Cronenburg has a man do drugs and kill his wife again and again.)
    7. Crash
(David Cronenburg is really strange and sexual with Holly Hunter.)
    8. Avalon
(Mamoru Oshii uses live actors in a computer generated Anime Film.)
    9. Hellraiser
    (Sex and Horror who knew)
    10. Nightbreed
    A horror love story.

I need to watch a lot of these movies.

    Geez, Bam… like gore much?!

I used to get into gore too. Until the first Halloween came out. Freaked me out so bad, I haven’t been able to watch a horror movie since!

So anyway, the first movies that come to mind for me are:

    1. A Knight’s Tale (*sigh*)
    2. Forrest Gump (probably the best movie of all time, IMO)
    3. Apollo 13
    4. Armegeddan
    5. Jaws (hey, that’s gore, isn’t it?)
    6. Zoolander (how can anything that friggin’ stupid be so damn funny?)
    7. Shrek (all of ‘em)

There are other movies I love, but I can only watch them so often because they upset me- like Braveheart, Franco Zefferelli’s(sp?) Romeo and Juliet, and… I’m now drawing a complete blank. GAK!

Good Thursday Thirteen list, I may have to steal the idea…
Girl, you have an interesting variety of fav movies… I had to say that I love Aliens much better than the original too. Have watched it dozens of times - my fav scene is the one where the alien mama is after the little girl and Ripley puts on the forklift suit, then says “Get away from her you bitch!” and then smacks that bitch upside the head. Luv it!

QB, if you liked Gump the Movie, you need to read the book. Winston Groom. He was so pissed off by the way they changed the character, he refused to let them use his next book for a movie.

They ass-raped Gump to make him a lovable retard. In the book, he was 100 times better. He was a pervert and hung like a gorilla. Seriously, read it.

I love horror movies, I’ll watch just about any of them if I find one on. Let’s see, others I always watch:

    1. Silence of the Lambs
    2. Army of Darkness (God I love Bruce Campbell)
    3. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
    4. Tommy Boy
    5. Galaxy Quest
    6. Any Indiana Jones, Star Trek, or Star Wars (just clump them all together)
    7. Alien
    8. The Double Life of Veronique (if only because it’s so rarely seen)
    9. Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure
    10. Blade Runner (always - I love Deckard)
    11. Blade
    12. The Shining
    13. Back to the Future (only I and III)

  23. Janeo
    23

    1. Night Watch
    2. Equilibrium
    3. To Sleep with Anger
    4. Blade and Blade 3 (cute guys abounding)
    5. History of Violence (Viggo is stunning)
    6. Shawshank Redemtion
    7. They Came From Within (David Croneburg)
    8. Rabid (David Croneburg with Marilyn Chambers)
    9. Bodyguard (I love it when Kevin takes the bullet for Whitney)
    10. Videodrome (Death to Videodrome, Long live the new flesh D. Croneburg)
    11. A Clockwork Orange
    12. 2001. A Space Odessy
    13. Unforgiven
    14. Open Range (Kevin shoots the baddies like he means it.)

    I have more!

Great list! I love movies. Particularly bad horror movies, for that matter, lol. And I think those two you mentioned are my fave Jason movies as well (though I’m partial to the one with him in space, just ’cause he’s in space for some reason). My thirteen more rewatchable films, more or less in order, would be…

    1. Pride & Prejudice (A&E is the only one that exists to me)
    2. Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical
    3. Bend it Like Beckam
    4. Shaun of the Dead
    5. Dirty Dancing
    6. Kill Bill
    7. Shredder
    8. Grindhouse: Death Proof (though could only see it repeatedly while it was in theatres)
    9. The Princess Bride
    10. Team America: World Police
    11. Amelie
    12. Romeo & Juliet (1968–also the only one that exists to me)
    13. Mulholland Drive
Honorable mention goes to Charlotte Grey. I watched that damn movie I don’t know how many times, mainly for every scene Billy Crudup was in.

I watch Pride & Prejudice marathon style when I’m depressed…not just once either–I get to the end of the last episode, then I play it all again. It’s really very pathetic and I can’t believe I’m saying this publicly, lol.

And I’ve seen Reefer Madness hundreds of times–it’s the kind of thing I never, ever get sick of.

Too funny that Night of the Living Dead and Zoolander are on the same list-lol!

I beg to differ! I didn’t think Equilibrium was a bad movie. No seriously. Bale made it work. And Sean Bean?

I have to say I’ve watched ‘300′ 8 times by now.
