“Oh no,” Leilani gasped. “We’re late!” Throwing back the sheet, she jumped out of bed.

Oliver cracked one eye open and squinted. “Late for what? It’s two a.m.”

“Our big conflict, that’s what!” She planted her fists on her hips. “Come on, give me your deep, dark secret.”

Oliver propped himself up on an elbow and cocked his head. He was pretty sure Leilani had no idea the light streaming through the balcony doors also went through her cotton pajamas and outlined her curves. “What dark secret would that be?”

“I don’t know. Whatever makes you think you’re not good enough for me, or can’t handle commitment. Whatever. I promise to laugh it off. This is only a novella, after all.”

“Huh?”

“Well if this were a full-length manuscript, I would have to agree the secret is horrible and stay away or ride off half-cocked to fix everything. The whole TSTL thing.” Leilani was standing next to Oliver. “But we’ve got to wrap things up quickly. Page count, ya know.”

“I promise I have no secrets, deep, dark or otherwise.” Oliver snaked an arm around her back, caressing the soft skin left bare between her shorts and top. In a swift motion, he pulled her to the bed and rolled on top. “And I can think of better things to do with our pages.”

Clever AND sexy. Good job, dude. Come claim your prize, girlfriend.
