Ann Aguirre is a Rock Star

Man, look at this lady go.

Laura and I pitched an urban fantasy series a couple of weeks ago. I’m sure y’all remember me mentioning Good Touch from time to time. It’s along the lines of Patricia Briggs, but with my own voice / twist on the genre. Anne Sowards, my editor for the Jax books, compared me to Ms. Briggs. Of course, she also compared me to Jim Butcher, and I nearly melted into a puddle of boneless goo. They’re two of my favorite authors!

On Friday, Anne offered for my urban fantasy series on pre-empt — three book deal! She and Laura did some negotiating and they’ve worked out an amazing deal. We’ve officially accepted the offer now, so I’m free to squee about it.

And that’s on top of her other series. I’d say she’s the luckiest person I know, but it ain’t just luck with this lady. It’s blood, sweat, tears, and grit. Oh and motherfucking pure unadulterated talent. Hardest working woman I’ve ever met. She is a leaf on the wind. Watch her soar. Except without the ka-chunk part, I mean (those who saw Serenity know exactly what I’m talking about. I haven’t forgiven you yet, Whedon).

Congrats, Ann!

I’m dying to read Grimspace. I love the cover, and I’ve read the blurb and the excerpt on her site, and I want more. Now! I’m not good at the whole patience thing.

    Congrats to Ann!

Congrats! haha, going to comment on Ann’s blog as well. Bam, I rewatched Serenity on Sunday with my sister who’d never seen it and I was shaking my head the minute he started calling himself a leaf.

Haha, if my sister hadn’t been there I probably would’ve done a long, drawn out ‘Noooooooo, why! Why you bastards!’ haha, but I didn’t want to mess up the show for her with my dramatics.

Damn. What an amazing surprise. “Pure unadulterated talent? Hardest working woman you know?” I suspect I’d better get off my ass, stop nursing this headcold and finish My Valentine then.

    Thanks, Dee. *hugs*

Sasha, I really hope you like Grimspace, but I think it’s safe to say, if the first chapter captured your interest, you won’t be able to set the book down.

Thanks, Jage. I read your comment on my blog and haven’t stopped smiling. Wow.

Jane and I talked about this book again the other day. She has great love for it and I’m really excited about the genre, because I think we need more good books that aren’t “paranormal” to increase the number of readers buying in the more futuristic/space opera/fantasy genre. I can’t wait to read Grimspace!

    Congratulations on your sales, Ann!

Hard work? Blood, sweat and tears? *bites lip in dismay* I was kinda hoping there was - I don’t know - an easier route to success? (kidding!)

    Congratulations!

Goodness, thank you, Angela. I’m delighted that Jane loved Grimspace. I tried to balance the action / adventure against the romance / relationship, and I really don’t think it would work without either aspect. I’m told that the denouement is clutch-the-book-to-your-chest-and-sigh-worthy.

    Thanks, Heather.

Tumperkin, I don’t know about blood, sweat and tears. I don’t tend to bleed while I work, unless I’m having the monthly, which isn’t related to writing at all. And I’m not much for sweating either. Mexico City is very temperate, plenty of air, so I don’t do that either. Tears…hm. I admit a few rejections have got me down from time to time, but I don’t break down over them. I just shrug, say “Next time” and move on.

Tenacity and patience, however. If you’re to make a go of this, you’ll need tenacity and patience.

…and talent (which you’ve got in spades *grin*). ’cause a polished turd is still a turd.

OH, and the determination to finish something— anything!

That reminds me, I was supposed to do something today…

Thanks. Tumperkin does too, which is why I didn’t mention it. Her prose is so lovely. She has a …Robin McKinley delicacy and elegance that makes me go “ahhh” when I read her.

But determination is another good point, Dee. So talent, tenacity, patience, determination. I think that about sums it up.

Oh, and a thick skin, for when people say your work is utter rubbish and they’d rather read old soggy newspapers that’ve been used to wrap fish.
