Thanks. Tumperkin does too, which is why I didn’t mention it. Her prose is so lovely. She has a …Robin McKinley delicacy and elegance that makes me go “ahhh” when I read her.

But determination is another good point, Dee. So talent, tenacity, patience, determination. I think that about sums it up.

Oh, and a thick skin, for when people say your work is utter rubbish and they’d rather read old soggy newspapers that’ve been used to wrap fish.

Goodness, thank you, Angela. I’m delighted that Jane loved Grimspace. I tried to balance the action / adventure against the romance / relationship, and I really don’t think it would work without either aspect. I’m told that the denouement is clutch-the-book-to-your-chest-and-sigh-worthy.

Tumperkin, I don’t know about blood, sweat and tears. I don’t tend to bleed while I work, unless I’m having the monthly, which isn’t related to writing at all. And I’m not much for sweating either. Mexico City is very temperate, plenty of air, so I don’t do that either. Tears…hm. I admit a few rejections have got me down from time to time, but I don’t break down over them. I just shrug, say “Next time” and move on.

Tenacity and patience, however. If you’re to make a go of this, you’ll need tenacity and patience.

Jane and I talked about this book again the other day. She has great love for it and I’m really excited about the genre, because I think we need more good books that aren’t “paranormal” to increase the number of readers buying in the more futuristic/space opera/fantasy genre. I can’t wait to read Grimspace!
