That was absolutely brilliant! I frequent this website mainly because I enjoy Dionne’s writing.
I’m glad this was posted here because otherwise I wouldn’t have heard of it and would’ve missed a wonderful story. I’m intrigued to know what happens next, and would readily buy the book if I could.

I think I understand. Sometimes you need to write stuff just for fun in order for your writing to STAY fun. Besides, this is an awesome way to get publicity. Look at how many folks it has salivating over your work already!

I too will most certainly download the pdf when it’s up as a whole. It’s a keeper! And I hope that if you’re ever looking for a reviewer to send stuff to, you’ll send some my way.

How come this is a freebie (not that I’m complaining) and not out getting submitted to various places?

The first 1,500 words of Ember sat on my hard drive from April 18, 2006 to September 17, 2007. I had a hundred reasons why it wasn’t going anywhere, the most salient of which was that I have another, longer FP story set in the same world and I was concerned that the narrative tone of the two stories was too similar. It wasn’t until I decided to write Ember as a freebie that I was able to get any work done on it–and then I finished the bulk of it in two and a half weeks.

Sorry to go all airy-fairy on you, but I think this story wanted to be free. And I had a great time writing it. It reminded me how much fun it is to just write, and not worry about selling. It also helped me straighten out some issues I had with first person POV.

I wanted three things from the story: content, for my web page, publicity, and a place to explore FPPOV. I got them. So, enjoy. I’ll try to give you plenty more chances to pay for my stories. ;o)

Yeah, I found out you don’t have a backlist. *sob*. But I have to agree with Bonnie, if this an just been an excerpt, you probable would have sold a copy of this novella to every comment in this thread. Personally, I downloaded pdf of this first chapter from your site, and will download the rest as they become available. This story is already a keeper.
