Holy Frickin’ Crap!

… your Sunday morning diversion

This thing starts out mundanely enough, but the ending was… wow. You gotta see it. It is absolutely terrible and morbidly awesome. So frickin’ stupefying that I had to watch it 10 times in a row.

Can’t get enough? Here’s another. And another. And another. Oh, and this.

Yeah, this commercial has run on TV like a million times lately… it freaks me out every time I see it. There’s a whole series of them about workplace accidents. They’re all like that… freakily scary as you watch somebody say, I’m about to die and then they show it.

Thanks for giving me a heart attack!!! That scared the bejeesus out of me (especially the make up on her face at the end). *shuddering at bad memory of friend’s face after pressure cooker exploded in her face :( *

Out of all of them the one on here is the worst. Ick. At least she didnt say “this was no accident!” like the rest.

With a buildup like that, I was actually scared to hit the play button, but wow. These are freaky, but actually really good. Because this IS how accidents happen - somebody blows something off and somebody else screws up.

State of California: you are SO weird, but in a good way.

Um, I think .CA is for Canada.

I live in Canada, but I’ve NEVER seen those commercials. Holy Crap, indeed!

To be honest, when I saw that first one, the first idea I got was that this commercial was for something totally different.

With her talking about her fiance, and using the quotation marks around “accident” - I initially thought this was an eye-opening human rights commercial about the prevalence of “kitchen accidents” in East Asia, where women who couldn’t pay their dowries were burned with hot oil or grease, while the perpetrators were never charged because the police would write it off as a “kitchen accident”.

Until I saw the other commercials, I considered this to be a way to get North Americans to care about the violence against women in East Asia!

Even knowing the real context, it’s still a thought-provoking commercial!

The ads, too (I watched them all of course) but mostly that sick puppy, Michelle.

I thought it was California, too. ::sigh:: I guess this is just another reason for me to be envious of Canada.

But, hey, Canada! Not cool, dudes. In a way, this is worse than those stupid Volkswagen commercials that have made me scared to have an inane conversation while driving for fear it will cause a hideous crash.

I was so mortified when I saw this on TV! I seriously sat staring at the TV for minutes after the piece had ended….

But you’re right, it was morbidly fascinating, I couldn’t look away…

True, Bettie. I live in fear of four-way stops!

Wow. Shudder. Well those certainly get their point across. I’m sure if they tried that in the U.S., people would get them yanked off the air.

I’m not surprised the ads are from Canada. When I was in Toronto, we came across a monument to workplace fatalities, nearish the CBC building. There were lots of plaques or tiles commemorating fatal workplace accidents going back decades; many of the deaths were grisly. Like those ads, it’s a grim reminder that people can get suffocated, crushed, shot, and worse on the job. Does anyone know the name of that memorial? I’d love to learn more about it.

I haven’t seen those commercials in awhile, for a time there, they were on heavy routation in the Toronto area. As I was watching them here I thought about those VW commericals, too.

I can see the CBC offices from my office, but I rarely go in that direction. Can’t say the monument is ringing a bell, Anne.
