Guess What I Got…

28 May

Damn it. I’ve got 40,000 words to go and 3 finals to study for… AND a giant paper to write. I will resist. You Anita Blake fangrrrls will just have to wait for the review… like I’m gonna wait to read it.

I’m going to stick my copy of Blood Noir under my bed right now.

(And no, I can’t believe I spent 17 bucks on this shit. AGAIN.)

Is it terribly mean to snicker?

    yes. yes… it is.

*sticking Blood Noir in a box, sealing it with duct tape, and throwing it under the bed*

    damn you, Amazon.

Sucker…. I haven’t bought since Incubus dreams and I haven’t read since Danse… I must admit, I can’t wait for your review though… The angst, drama and breast beating…. all because you can’t quit her…

I gave up on these. Just sorta lost interest.

    :(

And Bam…sniff. I’m hurt. I haven’t heard a word out of you about the book I sent you.

I’m almost tempted to not tell you I read Boundless the other day.

  7. bam May 28, 2008 at 8:24 pm #

Hey, Shi, I got the book. tell you what, I’ll review yours before Blood Noir

    come on, that’s a deal!

P.S. What did you think of Waking Kitty? Heh. Yes, I’m a narcissist.

  8. Josie May 28, 2008 at 8:34 pm #

I almost bought this today – was tossing up between Anita and Phury… Phury won, only because it was paperback. (Blood Noir is $50 in Australia, have they read these books!?!)
Either way I’m a sick individual because I keep saying I’m not going to read either of these series’ any longer.

Hey Shiloh – I love the cover of your next release… When does it come out?

  9. bettie May 28, 2008 at 8:53 pm #

Looking forward to reading both reviews. :)

I think I should hold my opinion hostage until you read Through the Veil. ;)

Nah, I liked it. The whole anthology was excellent. :)

Hi Josie, it’s out on Tuesday.

I don’t know if you read ebooks, but you may be able to get your books cheaper with the ebook version versus print. I can’t imagine spending $50 on a book.

Well, except the 40 year old copy of Through the Eyes of Opalina . *g* I spent much more…

Is it just me or does the cover of Noir remind anybody of the SAW movies?

  11. Lys May 29, 2008 at 5:23 am #

I will be interested to hear your review. I am tempted to get the Kindle version, but after reading some other reviews I just can’t work up the enthusiasm.

Now Shiloh ‘s next book, that I can really get excited about. I can’t wait!!

I hope it will be available for Kindle, I seriously have to justify the expense. :P

  12. Shiloh Walker May 29, 2008 at 5:25 am #

Lys, I’m pretty sure Veil will be available for Kindle. Hunter’s Salvation and Hot Spell are, so I think this one will be.

  13. Randi May 29, 2008 at 6:38 am #

sallahdog: you and me both. After whining about the series for so long, I finally just let it go after Danse. It took awhile though…I’ll be verra (because I’m Scottish this morning?) interested in bam’s review.

Hey Shiloh, I just bought my first ever book of yours the other day. You’re next after finishing my Kresley Cole marathon…can’t wait!

Is it terribly mean to snicker?

    yes. yes… it is.

And yet that still doesn’t stop me. Huh.

However, this is a people in glass houses event. I read the latest Kenyon once it hit paperback. I wuz sad. :(

was tossing up between Anita and Phury… Phury won, only because it was paperback.

WTF? Do I live near the only bookstores in the world who haven’t released Phury’s book early? Even my local BAM, who I can normally depend on to be delightfully screwed up, said “Oh we can’t touch those yet.”

  15. MaryKate May 29, 2008 at 6:57 am #

Lorelie, me too! I went last night just SO sure that Books-A-Million would have it shelved early. The teenager at the counter said, “Oh, they’re in the back but we have a strict street date for them.” I said to her, “You know, I think you might have a little too much power.”

I don’t even know why I’m jonesing so hard for Phury, the last two have pissed me off to no end, and yet, I can’t seem to help myself. Clearly JR Ward puts something in the books that no one can discern.

*hopeful* Like LKH with the anita blake books?

*hopeful* Like LKH with the anita blake books?

*Considers pointing out that droves of people been able to quit LKH.*

Uh, sure Bam. Whatever you need to believe.

    ;)

My review without reading Blood Noir:

Anita has lots and lots of skanky were and vampire sex and Jean Claude calls her Ma Petite till the cows come home.

  19. sallahdog May 29, 2008 at 11:01 am #

Katiebabs….no fair peeking in the back of the book!!! ok, so it was a no brainer…

I still read the Merrys, but Anitas? HUH UH>… no way… I just love to read the reviews. I even like the good reviews, if its more than ” All you haters are just a bunch of prudes, LKH and Anita are the greatest!”… Of course the “this book sucks” reviews aren’t a lot of fun either.”

  20. Shiloh Walker May 29, 2008 at 11:09 am #

Hey Shiloh, I just bought my first ever book of yours the other
day. You’re next after finishing my Kresley Cole marathon…can’t wait!

    Hope you like it!

I finally found my inner strenght a few weeks ago after reading PW’s review of this book and cancelled my pre-order. Nevertheless, since I still wanted to read it and no library is going to have it before weeks (if they do), I read it at the bookstore. Half yesterday and half this morning. I’m not saying anything but … Christ, LKH DOES have an editor, doesn’t she?

  22. JaimeK May 29, 2008 at 12:20 pm #

I bought it on release date and was going to finish the book that I was reading first and, well, I broke down today – it was in my car and I had 15 minutes before work…which led to taking it home and reading at lunch..damn, no self control. BAM you are a better woman!

Katiebabs, you are most likely correct, I just cannot help myself!

  23. BevQB May 30, 2008 at 8:21 am #

Speaking as Bam’s token LKH fangirl, who, in following the Fangirl Handbook Rules, has already read Blood Noir, but who threw the Rulebook out when reviewing it…

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Bam, but… um… you’re going to have trouble finding much to say about this book.

Or maybe I should say that you won’t be able to give us one of the Bamtastic honkin’ long snarkapaloozas that you’re infamous for. There’s just not enough material there to work with. Of course, I guess you could expound on it’s LACK of snarkbait, right?

Jason and Anita have one long conversation with an occasion boink up to page 196. Some random metaphysical shit happens pages 197-309, Anita gets to shoot a gun pages 309-336, the wrap up pages 337-340.

And that’s about it. And yes, an LKH fangirl DID just say that.

  24. katiebabs May 30, 2008 at 8:25 am #

BevQB: No Jean Claude? How many beings does Anita screw in this one?

  25. bam May 30, 2008 at 8:33 am #

Katiebabs, I’m betting FIVE, at most. That’s a conservative guess.

QB, are you saying… it’s NOT worth my time? :D

  26. BevQB May 30, 2008 at 9:00 am #

Dudes, she does Nathanial and Jason once. Jason alone a couple of times. And (are you sitting down?) the metaphysical boinkin’ happens OFF-STAGE and we don’t read about it as it’s happening.

I swear this on my LKH Fangirl Order of the Penguin Medal!

I’ll leave the metaphysical “Who” as a surprise. hee. But I will say that Jason wakes up with a Something About Mary hairdo… and it’s not his… hair gel.

  27. Samantha May 30, 2008 at 9:00 am #

I read it last weekend and I didn’t have to pay for it – yay! Nothing much happened, but I still liked it because: I like Jason, I like Anita when she’s with Jason, and I like “long conversations”. Otherwise, bleh; doesn’t matter – I’m still gonna read it no matter what.

We need an Anita Blake equivalent of methadone.

  28. Jaded Bee June 5, 2008 at 6:51 am #

I wish they hadn’t have brought Richard back at all. I’d appreciate it tons if Anita’d just grow some and finally just shoot his ass. Several times, just for closure. Also, I’m tired of seeing all the new big kitties turn into whiny (please don’t leave me, please can’t I stay, I’ll be your luuuurve slave forever!!!) bitches as soon as they get a good whiff of the Ardeur. I mean, come on, Tons of other “people” have been introduced to the Ardeur and they aren’t exactly pussy whipped. I think the new guy can just take a flying leap and bring me back Haven. I liked him, he has attitude. Other than all that, I pretty much liked it, I just hope the next one has more of the old characters (Jean-Claude…Nathaniel…Micah, heh hem) in it and more kickin’ ass and shooting her Browning. That’s all.
