I love this review. (Esp. your little SVU paragraph; I laughed very hard.)

Just finished the book last night (okay, technically this morning.) I knew the Darius and the PI subplots where going somewhere, I just didn’t care. (Also, PI dude who’s name I’m blanking? What an asshole.) But yeah, no surprise there. Wish they didn’t have Xhex’s mother at the end as the No’One chosen/servant.

I actually liked the Xhex and JM storyline (which is a nice change from the last book where the H/H just grossed me out; Rehv makes me want to take a shower and scrub real hard, cause yuck), though yeah, the self-girl-hating got annoying. Layla, Wrath, and Payne were also annoying. (I like her character, but her “verily I hate mother” dialogue mixed with the “Get. Over. It. Mom.” narrative was just annoying; I just want her to go kick-ass in the field with her twin in modern dialogue.) Lassiter is once again a waste of book space. (I don’t read the forums so he came out of left-field an stayed here; also, he is way too “all-knowing” to be anything but someone I want to see get his ass kicked.)

And then there’s Blay and Qhuinn. I am so in love with Blay; he just quietly breaks your heart.

Because they’ve been the reason I’ve read the last two books (though I liked LM, LA was just ugh for a number of reasons) AND the reason I’m reading the next one. SO DO NOT TOY WITH ME! [Seriously, even though Qhuinn has a lot of making up to do - and I'm still on the fence about Saxton (so glad Blay got laid, but Saxton himself? I like some aspects of his character and not others) - I want them together with a shiny HEA.] SO, again, with all internet respect, DO NOT TOY WITH ME. IT’S TOO CRUEL.

Am I the only one that cracks up at the sex scenes? I mean, they’re all hot at first, and then by the fiftieth orgasm in the first ten minutes, I’m like, “Uh, yeah. Sure.” Urban fantasy, indeed. These people aren’t real, they’re energizer bunnies.

It’s killing me not knowing who Layla will end up with. That poor girl is going to need some major therapy. Maybe she will go bat shit crazy because Qhuinn is such an asshat. I hope he suffers and gets down on his knees for Blay’s love. Have him walk around all emo and sniff a few of Blay’s undies for awhile.

He so pissed me off in Lover Mine and I did cheer when Blay got some hot man love.

@ Bam & Pamelia:
In JR Ward’s live chat last month, she said that Tohr is getting an HEA that is not Wellsie. She says it is possible for a brother to fall in love with TWO people..but it has never happened. It takes two very special people.

Murhder, Lassiter, and Tohr have been confirmed to get their own books. She also says John Matthew will never know for sure that he used to be Darius. In Dark Lover, the scribe virgin told Darius he will have no conscious memory in his new life. Once JM gets to the fade, all will be revealed…. Then she did her motto “KEEP READING”

@bam: JM is really Darius reincarnated. He’s just never going to find out or regain his voice. That was the Scribe Virgin’s price for sending him back.
@ Katiebabs: Yeah, the Beth in absentia thing bothered me a lot too as did the TOTAL LACK of Rehvenge being mentioned at the wedding at the end (hello? Not even a one sentence mention here?)
What I really liked about this one was that there actually seemed to be a PLOT to the whole thing. Like it was a much better structured novel than most of the previous ones. It seemed a lot more cohesive to me and especially when I realized WTF was up with the Ghost Hunter interludes. Wonder if Muhrder (Mhurdurr? Murdhur? I give up!) will be in the next books.
@ Pamela: I really hope Tohr and No’one aren’t paired up. If they were fated mates who already spent several months together and never figured it out in the way back past, I just don’t see it.
Yeah, JR Ward has some definite problems with her characterizations of women and they obviously run a distant third behind the Brothers and the Lessers in their importance, but I still can’t help loving these books!

Pam, when JM was first introduced, I thought he might have been the reincarnation of Darius because he kept having seizures whenever he saw Beth or had memories that weren’t his own. So I thought that’s where it was going. I think there were even fans saying, “Come on, it’s obvious that JM IS Darius.” I was disappointed that we don’t find out why JM has those seizures (or maybe it was revealed but my fan-girl rage blinded me to it).

I’m interested in reading about Payne and Manuel (mostly because woo-hoo, a person of color!). As for Tohr and No’One: how does the “mate” thing work in this universe, anyway? Do you only get one? I thought Wellsie was Tohr’s one true love.
